Using our Active Water Management® and Leakage Find & Fix services helped solve high water consumption at East Ayrshire council’s Western Road depot.
Like any other local authority, East Ayrshire council is always conscious of keeping costs down and minimising waste. So when, in 2016, our Active Water Management® service highlighted that the average daily consumption (ADC) at their Western Road depot had increased to 46m3 per day, we knew that there was something wrong.
Our account manager for East Ayrshire Council, Martin Bryce, visited the depot in September to carry out a high consumption investigation to try to identify the reason for the increase. During the visit another ADC reading was taken, which showed that the amount of water used had gone up again, reaching 74m3 per day.
Leakage Find & Fix
The council decided to use our specialist Leakage Find & Fix service to help locate and repair the leak. So arrangements were made for our team to visit the depot in November.
The team were able to locate the source of the leak, which was a burst pipe at the rear of the depot. Remedial works were carried out to fix the pipe and, following the repairs, the depot’s ADC dropped dramatically to just 4-5m3 per day.
By making use of both our Active Water Management® and Leakage Find & Fix services, East Ayrshire Council has been able to save around £55,000 per year.
For any local authority, budget management is a priority, so achieving a saving of this magnitude through effective water use management and leak resolution was very welcome.
