A tray of Ichiban sushi

Based near Stowmarket in Suffolk, Ichiban Ltd is a leading producer of sushi, whose clients include many of the UK’s major grocery retailers.

Being a complex product, sushi requires great care to prepare and the site is in production 364 days of the year, so it’s essential that any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.

Understanding the problem

Thanks to their smart water meters, Ichiban was alerted to a substantial rise in their daily consumption of water, from 60m3 to nearly 75m3. Any unexpected increase in water use can be an indicator of an onsite leak, which can result in costly wastage.

Leakage Find & Fix

Steve Whatling, engineering manager at Ichiban, looked for expert advice on the Anglian Water Business website and found details of our improved Leakage Find & Fix service. He discussed the service with his business account manager and decided this was the ideal solution.

The team arrived on-site and used a ground microphone to conduct a manual sounding of the site. The leak was subsequently found behind one of the food preparation buildings.

We estimated the size of the leak was almost 14.5m3 a day – the equivalent in carbon terms of 5kg a day – and it could have lost the company up to £10,000 per year.

We found an alternative water supply to minimise costly downtime and carried out a rapid repair. Steve said he would definitely use the service again and would recommend it to others, adding “the Leakage Find & Fix team sourced alternative solutions to reduce repair costs”.
